Plot summary
Tom, a fisherman, wakes bewildered on his vessel off Block Island with the boat in disarray. Dead fish wash ashore in numbers, and other strange phenomena are reported on the island. Harry, Tom's son, notices his father heading out at night and going unresponsive in conversation. His sister Audry works for the Environmental Protection Agency on the Rhode Island mainland and is sent to look into the wildlife deaths with her coworker Paul. She brings her daughter Emily and stays on the island with Tom and Harry. Harry teaches Emily to fish and catch frogs. Tom's behavior grows more erratic.
