Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Ten days into pre-production, an MGM story reader found an old script with the same story, then being filmed as The Happening for Sam Spiegel. Producer Josef Shaftel had to give up his 15% of the profits, let Spiegel approve every page, and delay release until six months after The Happening.
- Ken Annakin recalled that Raquel Welch "tended to wing her lines a little bit and would keep us waiting", so he had a showdown early on, telling her that unless she knew her lines and came on time he would shoot her only in medium and long shots, with no closeups.
- The B-17 used in the film was B-17G-85VE 44-8846, an actual World War II combat veteran aircraft that was at the time still being flown by the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis Museum.
