Plot summary
Jim is a white ex-GI. He arrives in Watts, a Black ghetto, carrying a letter he is meant to deliver. It came from his buddy, a Black soldier who has died in Vietnam. The streets of Watts are run by a Black gang, and Jim tries to befriend the men in it. Prejudice blocks any friendship between them and sets Black against white. Hostility and trouble come at him from every side.
