Jock Mahoney

Jock Mahoney was an American stuntman and actor who, after leaving the Marine Corps, settled in Los Angeles and doubled for stars including Gregory Peck, John Wayne, and Errol Flynn. He was born in Chicago and grew up in Davenport, Iowa. At Columbia Pictures he moved from two-reel comedies and Three Stooges shorts into leading parts in adventure serials such as Cody of the Pony Express (1950) and Roar of the Iron Horse (1951). He starred on television in the Western The Range Rider from 1951 to 1953 and played the New Orleans adventurer Yancy Derringer in 1958. Mahoney portrayed Tarzan in Tarzan Goes to India (1962) and Tarzan's Three Challenges (1963), and at 44 he was the oldest performer to take on that role. He also appeared as a villain in Tarzan the Magnificent (1960), starred in the Western Money, Women and Guns (1958), and was stunt coordinator on the 1981 Tarzan remake. He died in 1989.
