Plot summary
The British ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples, Sir William Hamilton, takes as his wife Emma Hart, a former dance-hall girl and courtesan whom his nephew Charles Francis Greville had kept and then gave up to settle debts of his own. Emma comes to enjoy her luxurious new life in his palatial home and to respect Sir William, who explains to her why Britain is at war with Napoleon. When Admiral Horatio Nelson reaches Naples, she is stirred by his determination to resist Napoleon's conquests, and she leaves her husband for Nelson, who is married as well, while the war continues.

- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee accused Alexander Korda of running an espionage and propaganda center for Britain in the United States; he escaped the charge when his scheduled appearance was preempted by the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor five days before December 12, 1941.
- While filming That Hamilton Woman, a wad of flame from a torch set Laurence Olivier's wig on fire; his co-star Henry Wilcoxon pulled the wig off but badly burned both hands, and Olivier's eyebrows were scorched.
- That Hamilton Woman was Winston Churchill's favorite film: during the Atlantic Conference of August 1941 he and his party aboard HMS Prince of Wales screened it again and again, and it brought him to tears.
- In July 1941 the isolationist America First Committee targeted That Hamilton Woman along with The Great Dictator, Foreign Correspondent and The Mortal Storm as productions that "seemed to be preparing Americans for war", and called on the public to boycott theaters showing them.
