Plot summary
Terri Thompson is a shy, overweight and depressed fifteen-year-old at his high school in a small town, where other students bully him. At home he is the sole caregiver for his uncle James, who is sick. Lately he has been slacking off in his classes and wearing pajamas to school, which does not sit well with his teachers. Mr. Fitzgerald is the assistant principal there, an unconventional but well-meaning man, and he takes Terri under his wing. He sets up a Monday-morning counseling session for the school's social outcasts. Among the students are Chad Markson, who is mentally unstable, and Heather Miles, an outcast girl.
