Plot summary
Sergeant Sarge "Nicotine" Crockett and the guardsmen Kenny, Francisco and Tomboy walk away from their posts and take what they need to survive. They rescue a young man called Boy from a band of hunters, and he stays with the group. Boy has heard a broadcast from Patrick O'Flynn inviting people to Plum Island, off the coast of Delaware, and they follow it to a dock. On the island, two Irish families are locked in an old feud: Patrick O'Flynn's people round up and kill the undead, while Seamus Muldoon's people keep their undead relatives chained and wait for a cure. Sarge and his companions reach Plum Island, where Muldoon's men attack them.
