Plot summary
A phone call tells Warren that his ex-girlfriend is dead and that he has a son in Mexico. He sells methamphetamine to Bo Dawg, whose associate shoots himself by accident; Warren kills Bo Dawg and flees, with Cal and Robbie on his trail. Unable to reach the caller, he stops in Bedford Flats, an isolated desert town near the Mexican border. He meets Don, who runs the liquor store, and Bob, a local drunk warned that the town has had enough of him. After a sobriety meeting led by Steve Patterson, Steve offers to help Warren get sober. Cal and Robbie find his motel room, so Warren shelters at the home of Steve and his wife Cheryl, and a horse tranquilizer planted in their bathroom puts him to sleep. He wakes tied up in the desert.
