After Superman's death, intelligence officer Amanda Waller wins approval for Task Force X, a team of imprisoned criminals she can send on black ops missions and dispose of if they turn. Nanite bombs in their necks keep them in line. From Belle Reve penitentiary she takes the marksman Floyd Lawton, Harley Quinn, Digger Harkness, Chato Santana, Waylon Jones and the climber Slipknot. Colonel Rick Flag leads them, and the swordswoman Tatsu Yamashiro guards him. Waller also holds the heart of the witch Enchantress, who possesses the archaeologist June Moone, the woman Flag loves.
