Plot summary
The Beast and his Slayers travel the galaxy in the Black Fortress, enslaving worlds, and Krull is now their target. Prince Colwyn and Princess Lyssa plan a marriage that would join their two kingdoms and their combined armies against the invaders. The Slayers strike before the ceremony is finished, scattering the Krull armies, wounding Colwyn and taking Lyssa to the Black Fortress. Ynyr, the Old One, doctors Colwyn back to health and tells him the Beast can be beaten with the Glaive, an ancient five-pointed weapon with retractable blades that waits in a mountain cave. Colwyn claims the weapon and sets out for the fortress, which moves to a new place every sunrise. Ergo, a magician, and a band of thieves and fighters under Torquil join the search.

- Ken Marshall took more time over his lines than the crew expected and did not make it out of the tunnel on the first take. Only one crew member noticed and was able to stop the machines controlling the set pieces; Marshall knew that if the machine did not stop in five seconds he would be dead.
- Special effects artist Brian Johnson said in a 2009 interview that director Peter Yates hated working on the film so much that in the middle of shooting he took a vacation to the Caribbean, which led to the special effects artists taking a three-week break from the project.
- Thinking the traditional cross dissolve had been done to death, Derek Meddings turned David Battley's character into a puppy with a series of photographic blow-ups embellished with artwork: Battley dropped to his knees and was shrunk step by step before blow-ups of the puppy were blended in.
- Lysette Anthony's voice as the character Lyssa was re-dubbed by the uncredited American actress Lindsay Crouse, because the producers wanted the Princess to have a more mature-sounding voice.
