- David Lander was originally cast to play the foolish thief Malak, but his deteriorating health from the onset of multiple sclerosis forced him to quit the project, and the part was recast with Tracey Walter.
- Conan the Destroyer gave basketball player Wilt Chamberlain his only film role, and it was also the debut of Olivia d'Abo, who played the petulant teenaged princess Jehnna.
- Sven-Ole Thorsen, who played Thorgrim in the first Conan film, returned for the sequel as a different character, Togra, and this time had to partially cover his face with a mask.
