Plot summary
General Clyde Haynes sends the android Solo into Central America to battle guerrilla insurgents. A flaw develops in his programming, and he gains a conscience. His developers try to take him back for deprogramming, but he flees into the jungle in a helicopter. Damage to his main energy supply on the first mission forces him onto a much weaker secondary power. He joins a small village under constant threat from guerrilla attackers and protects it in exchange for use of its electric generator. A child named Miguel befriends him, and he learns to bluff.
