Plot summary
Keith leaves prison at twenty-four and moves back into his father's house in Baltimore, where house arrest keeps him close to the neighborhood he came from. He wants to put the past behind him and get on his feet, but the neighborhood around him carries the marks of unemployment, neglect and long-entrenched segregation, and steady work is hard to come by. The people and places he once turned to are still within reach. He wants to do right by the chance he has been given, but the habits he formed behind bars are not easy to shake, and Keith moves between old contacts and new plans as he looks for a way out of the life he left behind.
