Plot summary
Bobby Davis, the greatest field goal kicker of his time, wins a championship and spends a month partying with his best friend, Charlie Brasi, until he meets Cassandra Carter, a sports reporter and his coach's daughter. Coach Carter then tells him he tested positive for steroids and offers him a quiet retirement with the results sealed, or public punishment. Bobby retires, trusting the agent who has invested his income for ten years, Shawn O'Grady, the man he also persuaded his sister Annie to entrust with the money from her mortgaged house. Then he wakes up almost broke: his fortune and his relatives' savings are gone. Two women from one-night stands, Pixie and Roxanne, are pregnant by him.
