Plot summary
Matt Gordon smuggles pearls, and just before the Second World War he falls in love with Linda Grahame. She accepts his proposal, but the church where she waits to marry him is destroyed when the Japanese bomb Singapore. Gordon searches the wreckage and cannot find her, so he sails away on his schooner. Five years later he comes back. Deputy Commissioner Hewitt is convinced the pearls are what brought him, and Gordon's old associates Mr. Mauribus and Sascha Barda believe he has them; Mauribus offers to buy, and Gordon says he has none. Then Gordon sees Linda, who remembers nothing from before she woke in a hospital during the war. She is now Ann, married to Michael Van Leyden.
