Plot summary
A.J. Raffles is a cricketer and a proper English gentleman, and he is also the jewel thief the newspapers call the Amateur Cracksman. He falls in love with Gwen, an aristocratic woman, becomes engaged to her, and gives her a diamond bracelet from his latest theft. He decides to give up crime. Then his friend Bunny, unable to repay a gambling debt of a thousand pounds, attempts suicide, and Raffles promises to get him the money. Raffles asks Bunny to take him along as a guest for a weekend at the estate of Lord and Lady Melrose, where he intends to steal the celebrated Melrose necklace. A gang of thieves has the same prize in mind, and Inspector McKenzie of Scotland Yard, warned of their plan, brings his men to the estate.
