Charlie Chan's Courage (1934) on Netflix

Plot summary

Sally Jordan, who years ago had Charlie Chan as a houseboy in Honolulu, asks the detective to carry a pearl necklace to El Dorado himself, because the sale of it to millionaire J. P. Madden looks suspicious to her. Bob Crawford, whose father's jewelry store set up the deal, goes ahead to make sure the ranch is safe, and on the train he meets Paula Graham, a film director's assistant headed to the estate to plan a shoot there. Their cab nears the house as gunshots sound. Inside, Martin Thorne, Madden's secretary, claims his employer is gone and presses Bob to remain. Chan reaches the ranch the next day posing as a servant named Ah Kim, and Thorne hires him as cook. Snooping, Chan finds a revolver missing from Madden's collection.
