Biography
Sydney Tamiia Poitier is an American-Canadian actress whose screen work began in the late 1990s. Born in Los Angeles to the actor Sidney Poitier and actress Joanna Shimkus, she trained at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and the Stella Adler Studio. Her first television part came in 2001, on the NBC drama First Years, which ended after three episodes, and two years later she headlined the UPN sitcom Abby, another show that folded in its first season. She played Rebecca Askew on Joan of Arcadia and appeared in four episodes of Veronica Mars before leaving that show over budget cuts. In 2007 she was radio DJ Jungle Julia in Death Proof (2007), Quentin Tarantino's segment of Grindhouse (2007), and in 2008 she co-starred as FBI Agent Carrie Rivai in the Knight Rider series. Later credits include a two-episode guest spot on Private Practice and the role of Detective Sam Shaw in Carter, a Canadian crime comedy.
