Plot summary
Milton Parker, an inventor of games, dies after losing a video game to his nurse. His estranged relatives gather at his mansion, where the lawyer Charles Bernstein reads the will: the $200 million estate goes to the winner of a scavenger hunt. Five teams take part. Parker's widowed son-in-law Henry Motley enters with his four children; the cook Henri, the valet Jenkins, the driver Jackson and the maid Babbette enter as one team; Marvin Dummitz, a taxi driver, goes alone; Parker's widowed sister Mildred Carruthers competes with her attorney Stuart Selsome and her son Georgie; and nephews Kenny and Jeff Stevens join Mildred's step-daughter Lisa. Each team gets a list of clues for one hundred items worth five to one hundred points, which must be collected without buying them.
