Avery Schreiber

Avery Schreiber was an American actor and comedian who worked in stage, television and film. Born in Chicago, he started at the Goodman Theatre and later joined The Second City. He then teamed with Jack Burns as the comedy team Burns and Schreiber; they recorded comedy albums and appeared on many television shows. Schreiber came to prominence in the 1960s through that partnership and became known for Doritos commercials and sitcom roles. On television he played Captain Manzini on My Mother the Car, co-hosted The Burns and Schreiber Comedy Hour in 1973, and was a regular guest on Chico and the Man. His films included Don't Drink the Water (1969), Scavenger Hunt (1979), The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977), Caveman (1981), The Concorde... Airport '79 (1979), Swashbuckler (1976), and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993). He also taught improvisational theater and gave master classes at The Second City, working in film, television and theater until he died in 2002.
