Plot summary
Ex-Army officer Steve Jameson takes a job as a guard at San Quentin. He meets May Kennedy, a night club singer in San Francisco. Her brother Joe, called Red, is a fugitive, and the police arrest him when he comes to her. Red is sentenced to San Quentin for robbery. On his first day in the courtyard he fights the convict Sailor Boy Hansen, and Jameson punishes him. May and Jameson begin a romantic relationship, and she learns he is the yard captain who oversees the prisoners.
