Plot summary

King Charles VII dreams of Joan of Arc, who once came to his court as a seventeen-year-old peasant girl. She said that voices of Saints Catherine and Margaret spoke to her, promising that she was to command the French army against the English at Orléans and that the Dauphin would be crowned king at Reims Cathedral. At his palace at Chinon, Joan finds a man with no interest in fighting, and members of the court test her and decide that she is mad. Her belief and fervor win the Dauphin over, and he gives her the command of his army.
