Biography
David Langton was a British actor who became widely known for his role as Richard Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs, the period drama that began in 1971. Born in Motherwell, Scotland, he was encouraged toward acting by his father, who helped him find work with a touring Shakespearean company. After returning to the theater in 1938, he built a television career in the 1950s and 1960s with appearances in series such as The Avengers and Dr. Finlay's Casebook. His film credits included The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960), A Hard Day's Night (1964), and Quintet (1979). Later screen work took in The Whistle Blower (1986) and the 1983 film The Hound of the Baskervilles. He continued acting on stage in plays such as Ross and Night and Day, and he died in 1994.
