Kenneth Haigh
Biography
Kenneth Haigh was an English actor who came to prominence in 1956 as Jimmy Porter in the premiere of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger at the Royal Court. Born in Mexborough, he trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. His stage performance was critically acclaimed as a prototype of the working-class anti-hero in postwar English drama. He played the same part on Broadway in 1958, then was passed over for the 1959 film version. He later took historical roles, including Brutus in Cleopatra (1963) and Napoleon in Eagle in a Cage, and made an uncredited appearance in A Hard Day's Night (1964). On television he portrayed Richard Francis Burton in The Search for the Nile and Joe Lampton in Man at the Top from 1970 to 1972 and its 1973 spin-off film. He also released an LP, How to Handle a Woman, in 1973. He died in 2018.
