Traci Lords
Biography
Traci Lords is an American actress and singer who moved from adult films into mainstream movies and music. She studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, then landed a guest role on Wiseguy before her first mainstream lead in Not of This Earth (1988). John Waters cast her in Cry-Baby (1990), and she later appeared in Virtuosity (1995), Blade (1998), and Excision (2012), winning the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Supporting Actress plus Fright Meter and CinEuphoria awards for the latter. Her television work includes Roseanne, Melrose Place, Profiler, and First Wave. She recorded Love Never Dies for Pet Sematary Two (1992), released the album 1000 Fires (1995), and reached the number two spot on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart with her single Control; a remix appeared on the double platinum Mortal Kombat soundtrack. In 2003 she published the autobiography Traci Lords: Underneath It All, a New York Times best seller.

Lords studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for three months. After she left the school, she took out an ad in The Hollywood Reporter to find representation.
A role that slipped away
For the 1990 film Dick Tracy, Lords tried out for the part of Breathless Mahoney, but Madonna ended up with the role.
A first
Lords joined the Sci-fi Channel television series First Wave in September as a regular cast member for its third season, and she was the first recurring female character on the show.
