Tony Barry
Biography
Tony Barry was an Australian actor who worked in film and television for five decades, mostly in Australia and New Zealand. Born in Ipswich in 1941, he first acted on the television series The Box in 1975 and 1976, then made his film debut in 1977 with The Mango Tree. Over his career he appeared in nearly 60 feature films and more than 45 television series. His film credits included Newsfront (1978), The Odd Angry Shot (1979), Goodbye Pork Pie (1981), We of the Never Never (1982), and Australia (2008). He won a Best Actor prize at New Zealand's 2010 Film and TV Awards for his role in Home for Christmas. In 2014, the Film Critics Circle of Australia honored him for his extraordinary contribution to the film industry in Australia. His final television role was in the 2023 ABC drama Bay of Fires. He died in 2022.
