Plot summary
Alex reaches Sydney and discovers he has missed his bus. Reading his travel guide in the street, he is approached by Taylor, an American who makes small talk and urges Alex to come with him. After a night of drinking with two girls, Alex wakes in a city park to Taylor photographing him. The two drive out of town, and Alex says he is expected in Byron Bay, where his girlfriend Sophie is waiting; Taylor proposes they travel together. Sophie has Ingrid, a German tourist, with her. The four set off for Katherine Gorge in the Northern Territory, and the next day Taylor says Ingrid had to meet someone and took a bus.
