Suzanne Flon

Biography

Suzanne Flon was a French stage and film actress whose career lasted five decades. Born near Paris, she worked as an English interpreter at a department store and as Édith Piaf's secretary before appearing in a musical revue. In the early 1940s she formed a long association with Jean Anouilh, playing Ismene in Antigone and being praised as Joan of Arc in The Lark in 1953. She also took roles in plays by Marguerite Duras and classic writers, and joined the Theatre National Populaire. Her film work began with Captain Blomet (1947), and she made an impression in Moulin Rouge (1952), Confidential Report (1955), and The Trial (1962). In The Train (1964) she played an art curator. She received the Venice Film Festival award for Thou Shalt Not Kill (1961) and won César awards for One Deadly Summer (1983) and La vouivre (1989). Her voice was also used for French narration in documentaries.
