Plot summary
In occupied Paris, Robert Klein is a well-off art dealer, a Roman Catholic born in Alsace, who makes his living buying artworks at low prices from Jewish owners who need cash to leave France. A Jewish newspaper arrives at his apartment addressed to him, and he learns that a second Robert Klein, a Jew the police are after, has arranged for post to be sent to his address. He complains to the police, who suspect that the report is a cover for his own identity. Told to prove his non-Jewish ancestry, he begins looking for the man who shares his name.
