Plot summary
Donovan Matheson once worked on the Manhattan Project as a physicist and theorist. His obsession with a theory of cold fusion cost him his wife and child in a crash he thinks he might have stopped. After thirty years away he returns to his small town, where events echo that same tragedy. He witnesses a fatal car crash he somehow knew was coming, then saves a girl from a falling power tool. He becomes certain that his neighbor Maggie and her mother Sarah share his family's fate, and he brings his story to police Sergeant Finnley, his brother-in-law.
