Sally Phillips
Biography
Sally Phillips is a British actress and comedy writer who co-created the sketch show Smack the Pony. Born in Hong Kong, she studied Italian and linguistics at Oxford, where she joined the Oxford Revue. Her first television role came in Fist of Fun in 1994, and she later played Sophie in I'm Alan Partridge and Tilly in Miranda from 2009 to 2015. For Smack the Pony she received a best female newcomer nomination at the 1999 British Comedy Awards. Phillips also appeared as the fictional Finnish prime minister Minna Häkkinen in Veep and starred in the BBC Radio 4 comedy Clare in the Community from 2004 to 2019. On film, she played Shazza in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and Bridget Jones's Baby (2016), Mrs Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), and a lead role in How to Please a Woman (2022). She wrote the script for The Decoy Bride (2011), in which she also appeared.
