Plot summary
Aboard a train to Bradley, the mysterious Doctor Schreck deals Tarot cards to five fellow travelers and reads a destiny for each. Architect Jim Dawson returns to his family's old house in the Hebrides to renovate it for Mrs. Biddulph, and finds a coffin hidden in the cellar. Bill Rogers and his family come home from holiday to a fast-growing vine in the garden that reacts violently when cut. Jazz musician Biff Bailey takes a band job in the West Indies, where he watches a voodoo ceremony and wants to borrow its rhythm. Art critic Franklyn Marsh ridicules the painter Eric Landor, who answers him in public. Doctor Bob Carroll brings his new French wife, Nicolle, to New England, where a vampire is said to be at work and he turns to his colleague Doctor Blake.
