Plot summary
Two years before Dr. Arthur Calgary reaches the Argyle family home, Jack Argyle was put to death for the murder of his adoptive mother, Rachel Argyle. Calgary, a paleontologist, has come to give back an address book that Jack had lost, and he says he can prove that Jack was innocent. The family meets him with hostility and wants the matter left alone; Calgary is set on finding out who killed Rachel.
