Patty Duke
Biography
Patty Duke was an American actress who, at 16, won an Academy Award for playing Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker (1962), a part she had first played on Broadway. She was then the youngest winner of a competitive Oscar. From 1963 to 1966 she starred as the identical cousins Patty and Cathy Lane in her own series, The Patty Duke Show. She moved into mature parts as Neely O'Hara in Valley of the Dolls (1967) and Natalie Miller in Me, Natalie (1969), winning a Golden Globe for the second. She led the Screen Actors Guild from 1985 to 1988 and received three Emmy Awards, including one for playing Anne Sullivan in a television version of The Miracle Worker. Later she appeared on Broadway in Oklahoma! and in Wicked in San Francisco, and she directed a stage version of The Miracle Worker in 2011. She also wrote memoirs, among them Call Me Anna in 1987.

In 1965, Duke landed a pair of top-40 hits: "Don't Just Stand There" climbed to number eight, and "Say Something Funny" made it to number 22. Her singing success also led to performances on TV programs like The Ed Sullivan Show.
