Plot summary
Margaret Ford is a psychiatrist whose new book on obsessive-compulsive disorder has brought her success, but she feels unfulfilled. Her patient Billy Hahn tells her his life is in danger because of a gambling debt to a criminal figure named Mike Mancuso, and he threatens suicide with a gun. Margaret takes the weapon from him and promises to help. That night she confronts Mike at a pool hall called House of Games. He offers to forgive what Billy owes if she sits in on a back-room poker game and watches another player, George, for the giveaway habit that shows when he is bluffing. She agrees.
