Kyle Gass
Biography
Kyle Gass is an American musician and actor, known for playing lead guitar and singing backing vocals in the Grammy-winning comedy band Tenacious D, where he serves as Jack Black's comic foil. Born in Walnut Creek, California, he learned guitar and flute at age eight and studied acting at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television before joining The Actors' Gang in 1982, where he met Jack Black in the early 1990s. His film debut came in the horror movie Brain Dead. He has taken small roles in several Black films, among them Shallow Hal (2001), Saving Silverman (2001), Kung Fu Panda (2008), and Year One (2009), and starred with Black in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006). He also appeared in Elf (2003) and won a FilmQuest award for Best Supporting Actor for Apartment 212. He is also part of Trainwreck and the Kyle Gass Band.

A first
While on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on November 15, 2006, Gass said he had graduated from the Juilliard School of Music at age 13, the youngest ever, with a degree in classical guitar studies.
Early training
At the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, Gass trained in acting and became acquainted with Tim Robbins. He became a member of Robbins' The Actors' Gang in 1982.
First role
Gass's first on-screen role was in a 1988 7-Up Gold commercial. The horror movie Brain Dead, which came two years afterward, served as his film debut.
Beyond film
Gass announced in 2021 that he would do his first solo tour, called "Kyle Gass Must Save the World". The tour was later canceled.
