Plot summary
Liam Turner is a sixth-grader who is dyslexic, quiet and well-mannered. After his brother Spencer died, his parents Bill and Molly moved the family to a new town, and their marriage is strained. Liam is too unsure of himself to introduce his new friend Gibby to them, and he keeps embarrassing himself in front of Emma, the classmate who defends him over his learning disorder. He writes his Christmas wishlist and mails it, but misspells Santa as Satan. Satan appears in his room the next night, and Liam takes him for Santa. Satan goes along with the mistake and offers to grant him three wishes, asking for his soul as the final payment.
