Robert Strange
Biography
Robert Strange was an American actor who divided his career between the stage and the screen. Born in New York City and educated at Columbia University, he entered real estate before turning to acting, and he worked with several companies, among them a troupe led by Blanche Bates. He joined the Washington Square Players and acted in Broadway productions from 1913 to 1933, more than 30 in all, including The Famous Mrs. Fair. Once sound films arrived in 1931, studios called on him often for character parts. He appeared as Art in the film High Sierra (1941), as John Malcolm in the film Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941), and as Dr. Hubert Foote in the film The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939). He also taught drama at the Leslie Academy of the Dance and directed its program, and he formed the Strange Show Shop troupe. He died in 1952.
