Symona Boniface
Biography
Symona Boniface was an American film actress who spent much of her career in bit parts, most often in comedy shorts at Columbia Pictures, appearing in around 120 films from 1925 to 1950. Born in New York City, she took an early interest in theater before moving into film in 1925 at Hal Roach Studios, where she worked alongside Charley Chase, Laurel and Hardy and the Our Gang children. Her bearing led to roles as society women, vamps or matronly figures. From 1935 she became a steady supporting player in Columbia's two-reel comedies, appearing with Buster Keaton, Hugh Herbert, Vera Vague and The Three Stooges, and the director Edward Bernds gave her larger parts, such as in Micro-Phonies (1945). In Half-Wits Holiday (1947) she was the target of a notable Stooge pie gag that was reused in later shorts, and her final screen performance came in an unaired 1949 television pilot.
