Jon Cypher
Biography
Jon Cypher was an American actor and singer who started on television as the Prince in the 1957 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, opposite Julie Andrews. Born in New York City, he worked in musicals and plays as well as on screen. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 in The Disenchanted, later took over the role of the Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon in The Night of the Iguana, and played Dr. Carrasco in the original cast of Man of La Mancha. His first film appearance was as the villain Frank Tanner in Valdez Is Coming (1971), and he played the heroic Man-At-Arms in Masters of the Universe (1987). His best known role was Chief of Police Fletcher Daniels on Hill Street Blues, which he played for the whole series, and he was Commanding General Marcus Craig on Major Dad. He also voiced the villain Spellbinder in Batman Beyond.
