Plot summary
Insurance investigator Andy Hammon corners a jewelry fence named Tony Lacava in a Miami hotel room, recovering a diamond necklace Lacava had hidden on himself. Hammon takes a job at a garage, where Paula Booth, a rich young woman, brings her car in. His remark to her gets him summoned by the garage's owner, her father, and fired. Hammon steals Paula's car and she loses him at a drawbridge. At her home, he claims to be a criminal and proposes a partnership, then shows her the necklace. Paula reports the encounter to her father, Paul Booth. Ford Pierce of the Department of Justice tells Hammon that Paula, her father and their associate Eddie are under investigation over the family's unexplained wealth.

- Terrence Malick wrote a version of Lady Ice's script and chose to go uncredited; his agent Mike Medavoy sold it for $50,000, helping finance Malick's first film, Badlands.
- Filming on Lady Ice was chaotic: the first director was fired, and a second, producer Harrison Starr's original choice, quit after Tomorrow refused to stop production and rewrite the script. $500,000 was spent before the film was shut down.
- Tom Gries replaced the original female lead Susan George with Jennifer O'Neill; he read the script on Friday, agreed to direct on Saturday and flew to Miami on Monday, with filming starting two days later.
