Plot summary
On an island off British Columbia, a white substance seeps out of the ground. Mr. and Mrs. Skinner regard it as a gift from God and mix it into the chickens' feed, and the birds grow bigger than people. Rats, wasps and grubs eat the substance as well, and giant vermin spread across the island. Morgan, who plays professional football, arrives with his friends Brian and Davis for a hunting trip. Giant wasps attack Davis, and Morgan takes his friends back to the mainland, then returns to find out what happened. Rita, who is pregnant, and her boyfriend Thomas are already on the island, their recreational vehicle bogged down in mud. Jack Bensington, who runs a dog food company, wants to market the substance, and his assistant Lorna Scott is a bacteriologist.
