Biography

Joe Keery is an American actor and musician who rose to prominence as Steve Harrington in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things. Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, he studied acting at DePaul University and appeared in commercials and in series such as Empire and Chicago Fire before his first feature, Henry Gamble's Birthday Party (2015). Stranger Things made him a series regular from its second season, and he went on to lead the satire Spree (2020), play a game developer in the action comedy Free Guy (2021), and join the crime drama Fargo for its fifth season. He also records as Djo, releasing the albums Twenty Twenty and Decide, whose track End of Beginning became a hit, and he was a founding member of the band Post Animal.

    Keery helped found the Chicago psychedelic rock band Post Animal, where he played drums, guitar and sang. He was with the group from 2014 to 2018.

    Keery took the stage name Djo, pronounced "Joe", for his solo music after leaving Post Animal, and released the album Twenty Twenty in 2019.

    In 2024, Keery's song "End of Beginning" went viral on TikTok and turned into a sleeper hit, giving him his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
