Plot summary
In 2007, a Pentagon bioterror team flies to Western Australia, where an oxygen tank that fell out of Skylab sits on a farm. The tank had been sent into orbit carrying an infectious fungus for study, and by the time the team arrives the fungus has escaped and spread. A sample is sealed in an underground vault beneath the Atchison Storage Facility in Kansas, whose ground level is rented out to a self storage company. Years later, a rise in temperature sets off a malfunction alarm in the vault, and the night guards, Travis Meacham and Naomi Williams, go looking for its source. Robert Quinn, a bioterror operative, is contacted at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. A military contact who calls herself Abigail arranges his equipment and sends Trini Romano to meet him in Kansas.
