Hugh Dancy

Biography

Hugh Dancy is an English actor who grew up in Newcastle-under-Lyme and appeared in the series Cold Feet in 1999. He drew wider attention playing the lead in the television film David Copperfield (2000) and as Daniel Deronda in a BBC adaptation. His films include Kurt Schmid in Black Hawk Down (2001), Prince Charmont in Ella Enchanted (2004) and Galahad in King Arthur (2004), plus The Jane Austen Book Club (2007), Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), Adam (2009) and Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011). On television he played the profiler Will Graham in Hannibal from 2013 to 2015 and Cal Roberts in The Path from 2016 to 2018, and his Earl of Essex in Elizabeth I earned a Primetime Emmy nomination. He has also worked in theater, notably on Broadway in Journey's End and Venus in Fur, and in 2021 was announced as a lead in NBC's Law & Order revival.
