Frank Jenks
Biography
Frank Jenks was an American actor and vaudevillian who worked in film and television. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he was given a trombone at age nine, played with Eddie Peabody's band in his late teens, and later became a studio musician in Hollywood. He spent nearly a decade as a song and dance man in vaudeville beginning in the early 1920s before moving into movies. His flat, sarcastic style brought him into films, usually as a supporting actor, though he occasionally took the lead in low-budget pictures for PRC. His most famous role was the cynical newspaperman Wilson in His Girl Friday (1940). On television he had his biggest success as Uthas P. Garvey, the right-hand man to the con artist Colonel Humphrey Flack, from 1953 to 1954, and he reprised the part in a syndicated version in 1958. He played Lieutenant Rodney in Front Page Detective and appeared in The Eddie Cantor Comedy Theater. He died in 1962.
