Plot summary
Acrobat Eddie Marsh is drafted into the army, but he would rather be in the Air Force. During training, he meets Kathryn Jones, whose father is his commanding officer. She has paused her singing career to entertain the troops and has only recently met her father, who is separated from her mother. Kathryn hopes to bring her parents back together. Her father disapproves of her romance with Eddie. Eddie, meanwhile, fears a mishap during his family's trapeze act in the upcoming army variety show. That show features a lineup of guest performers, and Eddie also dances with a mop as a partner.

- The closing song, "United Nations on the March", predates the establishment of the United Nations by two years and set Dmitri Shostakovich's music from the 1932 film Counterplan to unrelated English lyrics by Harold Rome. A misinterpretation of the title led some Russian media, including Lenta.ru, to report that Shostakovich had composed "the official UN Anthem".
- Eleanor Powell's tap dance solo in Thousands Cheer was her first appearance in a color film and her final MGM movie until Duchess of Idaho in 1950.
- Judy Garland's performance of Roger Edens' "The Joint is Really Jumpin' in Carnegie Hall", with pianist José Iturbi, includes an early use of the word "rock" in a musical sense.
