Biography

Fenella Woolgar is an English actress born in London. After studying at Durham University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she performed in repertory theater in Manchester, York and Sheffield and took on BBC radio and television roles. Stephen Fry cast her as Agatha in Bright Young Things (2003), a part that brought her several award nominations. She later appeared in Mike Leigh's Vera Drake and Mr. Turner and in Woody Allen's Scoop (2006) and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010). Among her other films are Victoria & Abdul (2017) and Swallows and Amazons (2016). Her television credits include Jekyll, Home Fires, Call the Midwife and The Buccaneers, and she portrayed Agatha Christie in Doctor Who. On stage, she won a Clarence Derwent Award for Hedda Gabler and a Sunday Times Culture Award for Handbagged.
