Tim Pigott-Smith
Biography
Tim Pigott-Smith was a British actor who received his training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Born in Rugby, he worked for years in smaller parts before a role in the BBC serial The Lost Boys led to his breakthrough as Ronald Merrick in The Jewel in the Crown, and that performance earned him the BAFTA Television Award for Best Actor in 1985. His television career later included the title role in The Chief and the part of Commissioner Mayne in The Suspicions of Mr Whicher. He appeared in Clash of the Titans (1981), V for Vendetta (2005), and Quantum of Solace (2008), and his final film was Victoria & Abdul (2017). On stage he performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, played King Lear in Leeds, and received Olivier and Tony Award nominations for King Charles III. He also wrote books and acted in radio dramas.

Big break
Pigott-Smith's big break came when his role as Arthur Llewellyn Davies in the BBC mini-series The Lost Boys led to him landing the lead of Ronald Merrick in the 1984 serial The Jewel in the Crown.

While filming The Jewel in the Crown, Pigott-Smith kept a diary of his thoughts on India, which he later released with a collection of poems and prose called Out of India.
