Ewen Solon

Biography

Ewen Solon was an actor from New Zealand whose career took him across Britain and Australia. Born in Auckland in 1917, he trained as a primary school teacher before going overseas to pursue acting. His film credits included The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), The Curse of the Werewolf (1961), The Terror of the Tongs (1961), and Unidentified Flying Oddball (1979), as well as The Dam Busters, Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue, Murder Anonymous (1955), The Message, and The Wicked Lady. On television he played Sergeant Lucas, the right-hand man to the title detective, in 50 of the 52 episodes of Maigret. He also appeared in Danger Man, Dixon of Dock Green, Doctor Who, including the serials The Savages and Planet of Evil, and Matlock Police. He died in 1985.
